KAMI............. IT SOUNDS REALLY GOOD

K   A   M   I
These are four letters of English Alphabet. If we put together then it will give a different meaning. Most of the people hate this word because it denotes so called low caste people in Nepal. Along with this word there comes the word untouchability. And this word is common word to distinguish Dalits from others. This is a stereotype. When someone says kami, others can easily guess overall picture of the particular caste. He/She can visualize the picture; uneducated, uncivilized, underdeveloped bla.. bla...bla..

      BUT

that is not true. There are other people who are of that quality, i mean uneducated, uncivilized
underdeveloped etc. If so why this happenes? It is because of their upbringing, preoccupied mindset which they can change themselves later on. But they are not ready to change their mindset because they want to rule this community by dominating them. Even educated people are not ready to do this though they know the fact. That's why untouchability is prevailing in our society. Untouchability shows the backwardness of our society.I think this is a mere word, not more than that.Let me talk about other words used to denote castes. "Joshi" is a word that denotes so called high caste in Nepal. People of this caste get unnecessary privilege, facilities etc.
Nowadays there is a system of reservation for underprivileged community in different fields which is not sufficient. When someone gets job through this channel he/she will be insulted in many ways.No one accept that these should be empowered. In this situation can you think about prosperous Nepal.?Answer is obviously no.

Stop caste based discrimination

WHAT IS YOUR IDENTITY?

I have a maters degree certificate and i am teaching in Xavier International College. That's my identity.I don't want to add my clan here in this part of my identity because that is something vague and used by my forefathers which i can change later on.That was acquired by my forefathers or just given by the then rulers for minor mistakes.
What i do today, my way of life is my identity not accepted from forefathers.More important thing is that it can be changed.Even if my family occupation is of blacksmith i will easily accept this.I appreciate work not the clan. Most of the Kamis they work as blacksmith. This work should be rewarded because they have important role in society. If there were no kamis in society, society might not  have developed in this way, goddess devi might have lost the war with demons. We might have been worshiping devils.
This is the cruel picture of society in the absence of kamis. The work of  so called brahmins is highly regarded because of caste system. In fact they both have similar contribution in the upliftment of society. That's why they both are equal.Let's redefine the identity. So called dalits are also the leader of society. While performing music in marriage ceremony they always perform in firstline and leaders are always in first line. This the reason so called Dalits are leaders.

WE ALL ARE EQUAL

I offer heartfelt condolences to all deceased and wish for
the speedy recovery of those affected by the recent earthquake.

Nature redefines the identity of human beings

We all are created equal but our society divides us into narrow domestic walls. These narrow domestic walls are caste, religion, race, gender, rich and poor etc.Creator didn't create these barriers but the then rulers created these barriers to govern the people easily. The famous theory 'divide and rule' exactly worked and they have been governing for so many years.
We have been practicing these barriers from time immemorial.Everyone in this world is eager to practice/apply these barriers because they think themselves superior than others. But the bitter fact is no one is superior and inferior to one another. But time is superior which can change sage into a king and king into a sage.Just like time Nature is also superior that can turn the whole world upside down.Nature can destroy the material prosperity of Dalits and non-Dalits rich and poor, male and female, white and black, like it did in Nepal.
Because of 6.8 Richter scale earthquake in Nepal on 25 April 7276 died and 14267 wounded till date.We can read, listen and watch different news about this devastating earthquake throughout the world. There are Volunteers, Doctors, Rescuers from different countries working/helping Nepalese victims. From inside Nepal; government, bureaucracy, agencies, Army, APF, Nepal police and individuals are helping earthquake victims. The day when earthquake destroy Nepal all citizens spent the night on the open ground in affected areas. No one talks about untouchability at that time.No one complains that there are poor people inside the tent.No one complains that they can't cook and eat food with Dalits.
All the citizens in kathmandu lived together happily caring each other. They helped each other, they asked each other for help. All Dalits and non-Dalits,rich and poor, muslims and hindus were inside the same tent. This was the perfect example of brotherhood. This was the actual picture of manhhod and God wants to see this in the world.I noticed equality created by people themselves. When i was near a tent,I heard someone saying rich and poor are equal for this earthquake.Another day there was a news on the famous newspaper about zero caste discrimination on the open ground.

KAMIS CAN DO NOTHING.............................

Somebody scolded me some years before when i failed to light mosquito quile.I was studying +2 level and i was new there.I didn't know how to light it because we didn't use to use it.He relate my failure with caste. In fact he said that i couldn't light it because i belong to so called low caste according to his mindset.
source: google
At that time i said nothing.I just cursed myself but not my caste. He used to run veterinary shop and we used to run in my village. My father managed everything to reside at the back side of his veterinary.I was eager to learn everything but there was no one to help me.I used to help his workers there in veterinary because i didn't have to pay rent.
The literal meaning of above sentence is Kamis  are not capable because they are kami.He didn't tell the idea how to light it.He just scolded me.He was an educated man.he had persued a B.Sc. degree in Agriculture. He was from Chitwan and he belongs to so called Brahmin family.I didn't notice any sign of  untouchability while living with him except above one. What do you think? Why he said this.
Awareness is more important than education. The fact is, every so called high caste people contain the seed of untouchability and they can sow it anytime they like. They can spoil so called Dalits whenever they wnt.I think that we must file case in National Dalit Commission against those kind of activities. This is the only way out.
No one can accept above explained blame which is 100% wrong.I couldn't light it because i was not aware about it.I couldn't light it not because i belong to so called low caste. In fact I am not of low caste.I am equal to everyone.I am human being.

PERFORMING HOLI: REDEFINING IDENTITY AMONG DALITS

How do you celebrate Holi?
Probably you know the way  we celebrate it in Kathmandu and in most cities of Nepal. There are other places where people celebrate it differently. They wear cultural dress called "Jhakuloa" and put 'tika' on their forehead. They put on garlands specially of marigold and perform this Holi. Jogbuda, that is in Dadeldhura district,so called Dalits celebrate it differently.
The time of Holi is the begining of spring season. We can see the buds and saplings appear and the air is romantic.Along with the romantic season the mixture of cultural dress evoked the beauty of so called Dalits and their art. When they perform Holi near Krishna temple in Jogbuda everyone comes to see this performance.
Everyone comes here to see the performance of so called Dalits. In fact so called Dalits are the performer of this festival here in this part of Nepal. They hold the power of it.So called high caste people just watch them performing Holi or they try their best to copy them(so called Dalits). When they failed to copy so called Dalits they cursed themselves and this is the interesting point to consider. So called high caste people trying to copy so called low caste.
In this festival so called Dalits sing songs from Holy books of Hindus;Ramayan and Mahabharat. So called dalits were not allowed to read these books, now they are performing on it.When so called high caste people come to see this it means they have accepted the hegemony/power of so called low caste people. So called Dalits are leading the society and they are power holder. This very idea redefines the identity.now so called Dalits are not inferior rather they are superior.
                                             let's  redefine the identity.
